Terms of Service

Agreement to these terms
By using ThinkStep, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you're under 13, a parent or guardian must review and agree to these terms along with our Privacy Policy as part of the parental consent process.
What ThinkStep is
ThinkStep is an AI-powered tutoring tool that gives hints and guiding questions to help kids work through schoolwork themselves, rather than handing over finished answers. It's provided as-is, on a best-effort basis, by an independently-run project — not a school, tutoring company, or professional education service.
Accounts
- You're responsible for keeping your password private and for anything done through your account.
- Account names must be your own first name or a name you're comfortable a tutor addressing you by — no impersonating someone else.
- You can delete your own account at any time from the app's Account menu. This permanently removes your account and grade info; chat history isn't stored server-side beyond what's needed to run a session.
- A parent or guardian can also request that we delete a child's account by emailing us — see our Privacy Policy for details.
- We may suspend or remove an account that's used to abuse the service, harass others, or attempt to bypass the app's safety guardrails.
Acceptable use
Please don't use ThinkStep to:
- Try to get the AI to produce unsafe, violent, sexual, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate content.
- Attempt to disable, trick, or work around the app's safety rules or tutoring guardrails.
- Interfere with the app's normal operation (for example, by overloading or attacking it).
- Impersonate another person or misuse someone else's account.
About the AI tutor
ThinkStep's AI tutor is a helpful guide, not a certified teacher, and it can sometimes be wrong, incomplete, or phrase things confusingly — like any AI system. Always double-check important answers with a teacher, textbook, or parent/guardian, especially for graded work.
No warranty, limitation of liability
ThinkStep is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee the app will always be available, error-free, or perfectly accurate. To the fullest extent allowed by law, ThinkStep and whoever operates it aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app — for example, relying on an incorrect AI response for a graded assignment.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a meaningful change, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use ThinkStep after a change means you accept the updated terms.
